Drawing on the material gathered as part of an ethnographic research project on participatory concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris, we propose to analyze the measures implemented to encourage cultural participation by so-called “remote” audiences: people living in socio-economic insecurity, with disabilities or seeking asylum. By analyzing the trajectories of people who heard about the project but did not wish to participate, or who defected, we will attempt to sketch a portrait of cultural non-participation in the Île-de-France region.
